Transport networks and corridors
The task of this work package was to provide conceptual and concrete contributions to the development and planning of Motorways of the Sea in the European Union.
Firstly, we developed a generic Motorway of the Sea Systems Model which illustrates the main components that play a role in MoS (such as port infrastructure, funding mechanisms and hinterland transport), and how they interact with each other. The Systems Model was also used to evaluate the StratMoS demonstration project.
Based on these demonstration projects, we furthermore carried out a SWOT Analysis of different components of MoS and looked at how they can contribute to optimise the use and connection of selected transport corridors into more connected networks for freight transport. The work package will propose strategies for investments in infrastructure and facilitates for cooperation mechanisms of different MoS actors.
