Hinterland by barge and rail
This sub-project will concentrate on using barge to serve the hinterland, i.e. Northern Netherlands, from Port of Amsterdam. The project idea is to establish circle lines by barges that take containers to and from Port of Amsterdam who in return sends containers to/from Port of Rotterdam. The objective is to shift cargo from trucks on the roads to barges on the inland waterways. This will be one of the means to comply with the new regulations that by 2030 only 35% of the cargo to/from the main ports in the Netherlands shall go by road.
